About Us

Chuck and Robbie SlemakerChuck & Robbie Slemaker

We have been Cavalier King Charles breeders since 1998. We were also owner/operators of Alpenhorn Bed & Breakfast in Big Bear, CA, with breeding facilities on the property. Now we are back on "flatland" wearing our breeder caps full time.

Up to the mid-1980s, Chuck refused to have any kind of animal in the house. When he finally did come around and agree to our first Cavalier, we purchased Godfrey from Sandy Bush of Sunvalley Cavaliers. In less than two months, we bought a second one to keep Godfrey company. Over the next several years, we became increasingly involved in the activities of the Cavaliers of the West, www.cavaliersofthewest.org, a regional club operating under the auspices of the breeding program for the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club, USA, ckcsc.org.

Our various club jobs included table and gate stewarding, fund-raising raffles, chairing show committees, and organizing and managing COTW's Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Rescue Program. Chuck became a member of the club's board of directors, then vice president, and finally president.

Today, we have Cavalier King Charles Spaniels ranging in age from newborns to over 15 years old. A majority of our personal friends are people we have met through Cavaliers King Charles Spaniels, and virtually all of the people who have our puppies are still personal friends. Our Cavaliers and their visiting relatives play, exercise and chase butterflies on about a half acre property. We have an excellent reputation and use only the finest-bred Cavalier King Charles Spaniels for our breeding program.

Those interested in buying a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel from Mayfair Cavaliers are invited to visit our home and see where our puppies are born, raised, socialized, and trained before going to their new homes at 12 weeks.

As breeders and club members, we are absolutely dedicated to the principles of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club, USA (www.ckcsc.org) Code of Ethics:

"the welfare of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breed is of paramount importance. It supersedes any other commitment to Cavaliers whether that be personal, competitive, or financial."
